Bread, Pasta and Rice
on Gastric Band Diet

by Robin
(Houston, Texas)

Band Question:

I have no problem eating bread, pasta or rice. Is that a good thing? Is something wrong with my band?

There is nothing wrong with your stomach band!

There is a LOT of trial and error involved with the gastric band diet and everybody seems to be different in what they can and can't tolerate.

The gastric band procedure isn't performed in order to prevent you from eating bread, pasta, and rice. Bariatric banding is simply meant to help reduce the volume of (all) solid foods you eat, thereby reducing the number of calories you intake.

So enjoy small portions of bread, pasta, and rice!

I can too!

I also have no problems with bread and pasta, but in much smaller portions.

I have a big problem with rice and therefore do not eat it anymore. It seems the rice, after I drink liquids, grows...to the point of being uncomfortable.

Interestingly though, I am having problems with chicken. I never think of it as stringy, but yes, chicken can be stringy, as can turkey. I have tried them both several times as my source of protein, but I now have reverted to beans for protein or ground beef as I have continuously encountered problems with chicken.

It is a learning curve. Good Luck~
