Consequences of Overeating
After Stomach Banding

by Robin
(Houston, Texas)

Can you really stretch out your gastric band if you do not eat correctly?

Robin

Eating correctly after gastric lap band weight loss surgery is not only important so you get proper nutrition, it's necessary in order to prevent the pouch (the area above the band) from stretching.

Your lifelong goal should be to keep that pouch small! If it stretches, you'll need a larger portion in order to feel full.

Once the pouch has stretched the most it can, the area above the pouch...your esophagus...can stretch. That's called esophageal dilation and it can happen from persistently eating more than you should!
