Is Sugar One of the Lap-Band Diet Restrictions?

by Stephanie
(Dallas, Texas)

Can I eat sugar and sweet things anymore after Lap-Band surgery? I've heard about "dumping syndrome" happening after weight loss surgery and I don't know if I need to worry about it or not.

You don't need to worry about sugar causing dumping syndrome after Lap-Band® weight loss surgery like you do after gastric bypass, but you DO need to worry that eating too many high sugar foods can slow your weight loss.

Sugary foods like cookies, pies, pastries, ice-cream, chocolate, candy, regular soda pop, honey, syrup, jam/jelly, and sugar itself provide lots of calories in small amounts. You'll still be able to get these foods down after surgery, but I wouldn't recommend including them regularly!

Every bite you take matters even more, now that you can only eat a small amount. Ideally, your food choices have high nutritional value. Unfortunatley, high sugar content foods have little nutritional value.

It IS possible, however, to eat sweets that taste good but are good for you and low in calories too. Here's a perfect example: Strawberry Whip.
