When to Attend Support Group Meetings
When you're considering gastric band surgery
- Find out what others have experienced.
- Get the insider stories about the bariatric surgeons you're considering.
After you've had your weight loss surgery
- Attend meetings when you're doing great to motivate others and represent the "power of possibility."
- Attend when you're not doing so great. Although those are the times you'll least want to attend, those are the best times to attend.
Don't crawl under a rock and hide when you "fall off the wagon." Your gastric band support group buddies are there to pick you up when you're down...and they want to do it. You'd do the same for someone else wouldn't you?!
You may have supportive family and friends, but nobody knows what you're going through like someone who's going through (or has gone through) the very same thing.
I probably don't have to tell you that having support - people you can share with and bounce ideas off of - can be a powerful thing. There is research showing that such accountability and support is more likely to lead to a positive outcome.
So find a support group near you...
...and attend live and in person.
