My new birthday. Nov. 30, 2010

by Pat
(Missouri)

As you can see by the name of my blog, I just had my weight loss surgery. This has been a year in coming. Excited, scared, to say the least. But very determined to be successful. To that end I am sure I will need all the help and support I can get. I know this is not entirely a journey of one.

I guess right now my hardest hurdle has been the meal replacement shakes I am eating. The product my surgeon has me on is so sickening sweet it makes me sick to my stomach. I am having a very hard time getting it all down, so I am having trouble getting all my protein.

I guess I should tell you I live in Missouri, but had my surgery in Oklahoma. I have a very good doctor. I was very surprised that just a few hours after my surgery I was eating, of course just 30cc every 30 min. I did very good the first day. The second day was pretty good, and I was pleased that I had hardly any pain at all. I also got to get out of the hospital that afternoon.

Since I live 4 hours from the hospital, I went to a motel for the night. The next day was travel day. I was very tired, and not feeling real good, but made it home. Yeah!! Since being home every day I feel better and better, but just dread my shakes!

I look forward to hopefully having communication with many other lap-band patients. I know I can learn a lot from those of you who have been at this for awhile.

Till next time.

Pat from Missouri

Extracts make the shakes better
by: Anonymous

Get extracts from the spice isle like add orange extract to vanilla protein shakes or almond to chocolate, yum

Unjury
by: Lynnette

I too was having problems with the protein shakes, I either hated the taste or I had nausea/vomiting. I tried several different brands in the weeks prior to my surgery (3/31/11) and finally went online to see if anyone else was having this problem and what they did. I was afraid I couldn't have the surgery if I couldn't tolerate the protein shakes! Then I discovered Unjury which you can only get online. I actually like the shakes (chocolate). Now that I am on pureed foods I add banana or berries and mix it in the blender. Just a suggestion but the Unjury works for me. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey. I have lost 15 pounds since my surgery.

How's it going?
by: Stacy

Hi! I'm wondering how you're doing? I had my surgery one week after you so we're probably at about the same point.
I did really great the first 6 wks and then not so great until my 3rd fill 1.5 weeks ago. I'm finally limited in what I can eat. I finally feel the restriction!
I lost 6 lbs over the last 2 months, which was very disappointing. Since my last fill, I've lost about 7 lbs! I feel great but I'm still learning what I can and can't eat.
I found your blog because I was searching for ideas from others who are at the same point as to what they are eating.
I hope you're doing well.
Stacy
