Pre-op Lap-Band Diet
I have been reading forums to study up on the lap band surgery, to see if it's for me & to know all that I can. Can you tell me if the pre op lap-band diet is 4 weeks of a liquid diet or is that for those who are having the RNY surgery?

The pre-op lap-band diet depends to a large extent on your particular surgeon. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery has not established a "standard" diet that must be followed.
The time before your weight loss surgery is the time to do your best
eating in order to get in the best nutritional shape possible to promote speedy recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
Depending on how much weight you have to lose and who your surgeon is, your pre-op lap-band diet could be 2 weeks - 3 months and you may or may not be required to lose weight in that time period (again, depending on your doctor and also your insurance company).
What you are required to eat in that time period could range from full fasting to partial fasting (2 shakes and one meal) to a simple low calorie diet, high protein diet.
You can get pre-surgery "kits" such as these
in order to take all the guesswork out of it if you want.
The surgeons I work with require a 2 week pre-op diet that's low calorie and high protein. Most of the patients opt to follow a "partial fast" (2 high protein shakes and one meal) in order to achieve this. I recommend the Bariatric Advantage
