Special Needs Protein

I'm scheduled for lap band surgery on 05/28/09 and I have been looking around for some protein powders and ready to drink protein shakes for my particular needs.

I have migraines and I cannot consume artificial sweeteners like sucralose, aspartame or saccharine. I seem to be fine with stevia and xylitol, though. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible to find protein powders/protein shakes that don't have any sweeteners OR are sweetened with stevia instead of the artificial sweeteners sucralose, aspartame, and saccharine:

Optimum Nutrition's Any Whey (unflavored protein powder) doesn't have any added sweeteners. It's virtually tasteless. You can add it to broth or decaff coffee in the beginning clear liquid stages, mix it with mashed potatoes or yogurt in the mushy stages or blend it with bananas and pineapple for a tropical protein shake or frozen berries for a nice thick berry flavored protein shake. You can basically make it taste like whatever you want because there is no flavor to the protein powder itself.

I also love, love, love Jay Robb Whey Protein Powder. It's a little more expensive, but it's made from cows not treated with rBGH (growth hormones) and is sweetened with Stevia. It comes in the usual Unflavored, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry as well as yummy Pina Colada and Tropical Dreamsicle flavors.

I also really like Solgar Brand Whey to Go. It doesn't contain artficial sweetners either! Depending on the flavor, it either has natural flavoring or a very small amount of fructose. It comes unflavored, or vanilla, chocolate, mixed berry or honey nut flavor.

Enjoy and let us know what you settled on!
