The right way to eat
RIGHT after gastric lap-band surgery

by Yelena
(New York, NY)

Hello. I just had gastric lap band surgery on March 18, 2009.

I am not sure how I have to eat (I know what I can eat).

Let's say I eat oatmeal made with 1/2 cup water in the morning. 1 1/2 hours later I feel hungry. I am not sure if I can eat something again.

I am afraid that if I eat something wrong I will not lose weight. Please, can you tell me how often I can eat and still lose weight? I think when I eat I am afraid to over eat.

Sincerely yours, Yelena

Yelena,

Include protein every time you eat and you shouldn't feel hungry so soon.

Make your oatmeal with a ready to drink protein shake instead of water OR add protein powder to your oatmeal during cooking (See this FABULOUS high protein oatmeal recipe.)

It's ok to eat if you're physically hungry. Just make sure to stop eating as soon as you feel full. This will assure you're not overeating. And again, including protein with all meals. Protein will keep you full for a long period of time and will also help you heal.

Eventually you'll be able to eat ALL the portions suggested in the gastric lap-band food pyramid and STILL lose weight!
