What Can I Eat After Recovery From Gastric Lap-Band Surgery?

by Donna
(Berryville, VA)

Hello,
After I've completed all my stages for the band, what will my ultimate meal be like? How many ounces and of what?

Thanks,
Donna

After gastric lap-band surgery, your "new stomach," or "pouch" will be able to hold ~4-8 ounces of food. That's about as much as you can hold in your cupped hand.

Meals should always contain a source of protein...chicken, turkey, fish, lowfat cheese, eggs, beans, etc.

See this gastric lap-band food pyramid for an idea of what you need to eat over the entire course of a day.

Read more about what to eat here, and see sample menu suggestions here. This list of what to keep your pantry stocked with may be helpful too!
