Lap-Band Diet and Lactose Intolerance

I have been approved for gastric banding, but have not had the surgery yet. I am lactose intolerant and wonder if I will have a problem with the diet that comes along with the surgery.
Are there products that I will be able to get that are lactose free or very low?

Your gastric lap-band diet should be high in protein. While dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese are certainly good sources of protein, there are plenty other sources of protein that don't contain lactose: chicken, turkey, fish, beans, tofu, and eggs to name a few.

You can always substitute soy milk, soy yogurt, or soy cheese for their dairy counterparts.
You can also use lactaid tablets before eating dairy products.

As far as the protein shakes go, look for lactose free shakes or soy based shakes/protein powder.

Congrats on your surgery approval! Keep us updated on your progress!
